Five minutes to calm (or sleep)
Have you heard of Dr Sara Gottfried? She's a Harvard trained gynaecologist with 20+ years of experience, and a specialist in women’s hormone health. She’s the author of the New York Times bestselling books, The Hormone Cure and The Hormone Reset Diet. I really like her stuff.
In this video Dr Sara shows us her five-minute fix for calming down or getting back to sleep.
And in this blog post of hers is another gem of a breathing exercise, which is great for reducing the stress hormone cortisol. It goes like this:
“As you’re sitting there, simply breathe in through your nose, hold, and count to four. (Make sure to breathe into your belly – it should expand). Then let the air out through your mouth until it’s all gone. Pause for one second and breath in again. Repeat this simple exercise eight times and you’ll reset your stress response. It’s that easy.”
Dr Sara uses this trick with her patients and family. I’ve already road-tested it a number of times and it works for me. I hope it does for you too. Let me know how you go.
